Danish Plaited Socks

I have been on the most challenging knitting adventure these last few weeks. A wonderful sock challenge by a Danish designer Cita Steinmeier has been sharing her design and traditions of Christmas in Denmark.
The entire pattern was in chart form which was a new experience for me.

My knitting has grown and once again proved that anything is possible if you don't give up!! And of course have lots of help.

One Step at a Time

My custom knit socks journey began about 18 years ago when a friend asked me to talk her youngest daughter out of getting married. She went on to say she'd give me a gift if I succeeded. Since she was a knitter I suggested a pair of socks. The reactions I received from both her and her sister was a big surprise. "Socks are out of the question, You have No idea what you're asking!" Those comments were enough to inspire my curiosity, "Someone invented the sock, they can't be that difficult." And so my journey began.

I went to two knitting shops in Seattle, both were very willing to help me get started for approximately $160.00, both also assured me I could not teach myself. What's that old saying....... necessity is the mother of all inventions, $160 was out of the question at that time so I turned to the internet which was still in it's early years. I happened to find a website that had a wonderful pattern broken down in steps, using US #5 dpns, and worsted weight yarn. By the end of the first week I had my first sock completed.

Those socks have since then been repaired numerous times but are still enjoyed my husband today.

The young girl did get married and has two lovely children. I've gone on to knit hundreds of socks, design and publish sock patterns plus teach sock knitting all over the US plus internationally.

Anyone with The desire can knit socks!
